"Nancy Trejos of The Washington Post (unsolicited) recently stayed at The Madison Hotel, and this is what she had to write in the Washington Post:" "The By Nancy Trejos At the At least that's what I concluded after asking the front desk clerk who'd won the previous evening's raffle. "You did," he told me, without even looking at the number on the ticket I'd been handed when I'd checked in the night before. He offered me one of four prizes: a candle, a beer mug, a USB flash drive or a stuffed animal (a lion, a tiger or a bear? I couldn't tell from afar). What a way to make a girl feel special. Actually, though, I did feel kind of special at the Apparently, some of the East Coast's wealthiest and most influential citizens had discovered what The elegance of the Gilded Age is what inspired restaurateur Rod Keller Sr. and architect WalterPfeiffer to design and build the Everything about the The hotel restaurant, Rod's Steak and Seafood Grille, which preceded the hotel by 30 years, is likewise filled with antiques. The stained-glass skylight, purchased from a farmer in My favorite pieces were the two antique parlor cars adjoining the main dining room. Believed to have been owned by department-store magnate John Wanamaker and legendary 19th-century financier Jay Gould, they've been restored and converted into a dining room. Unfortunately, it looked too cozy and romantic for a solo diner like me, so I opted for a drink at the bar instead. I felt a bit like a party-crasher, because the place was jammed with wedding and engagement-party guests watching a football game. (There were so many celebrations going on in the party rooms that night that I lost count of them all.) Unfortunately, my room wasn't quite as grand as the public spaces. With its beige wallpaper, floral curtains and old-fashioned TV, it betrayed the hotel's age. But the weathered look also makes the place feel homey. And the service is as polite and old-fashioned as you can get. Oatmeal cookies and hot apple cider wait for guests at the check-in desk. Coffee and tea are served all day long in the lobby, which also hosts an elaborate continental breakfast in the morning and, with its overstuffed sofas and chairs, has the air of a living room. After breakfast, I sat among the hung-over wedding guests and took my time drinking my coffee and reading the newspaper. "We loved the Madison Hotel" "My husband and 14 year old daughter were planning a visit to NYC to catch up with friends. We last minute, decided to stay in Morristown, to visit my husband's brother, as well. To look at the pictures of the Madison and then find out the pricing was our fist pleasant surprise. When we arrived, the hotel was immaculate. The lobby was beautiful, and the grounds well manicured. The door man was pleasant and helpful. Hot cider and fresh red velvet cupcakes were on the check in counter, as well as coffee and other beverages. The room was immaculate as well. Bedding was clean and new, and very comfortable. We requested a roll away cot for my 14 year old...which to our surprise was basically a twin bed on wheels! It was perfect! Fresh linens were provided as expected, and all toiletries replenished as well. We had our own personal Kuerig machine for coffee, as well as tea and hot chocolate. The continental breakfast was outstanding, fresh fruit and homemade pastry! We did not get a chance to eat at the hotel, but the food choices as well as room service, looked wonderful. The train is right across the parking lot, which we found perfect, for going into NYC. "Stay here" "My daughter is a student at Fairleigh Dickinson University, and having stayed at The Madison when she moved into her dorm in August, it was The Maidson I chose when my son and I returned for a visit last weekend. I won't stay anywhere else. I can walk to the campus in 10 minutes. My 14 year old son and I found plenty to eat at the continental breakfast and because the weather was good, we ate outside on the enclosed patio - very nice. Every afternoon, an urn with cider and mini cupcakes were set out in the lobby, and all day, coffee and hot water urns for tea and hot chocolate were available in the breakfast area as well. The hotel is very well kept; the staff is friendly and eager to please; the ambience is delightful. I highly recommend The Madison." Posted on October 17, 2011
"Excellent value tucked away about an hour's train ride to NYC. Quiet and accommodating, the staff tries hard to please." Posted on May 19, 2011
"Wonderful Experience" This is a first class hotel with alot of character an a great value. The staff is very attentive. The food and bar are at Rod's is excellent. We have stayed there many times and would not think of staying anyplace else in the area. Posted on December 15, 2011 “Exceptional Consierge" "A great hotel has a number of qualities that combine to set it apart: good staff, comfortable and well-kept accomodations, excellent dining. What I discovered at The Madison Hotel was all this AND the most exceptional concierge I have ever encountered. Ms Karen Shor defines excellence!" Posted on May 26, 2011.
"Still wonderful after all these years." "I thoroughly enjoyed my recent stay at the beautiful and elegant Madison Hotel. My wife and I originally are from the tri-state area. The Madison Hotel and adjacent Rod's Restaurant were among our favorite weekend respite destinations during our early married years living and working in New York. We particularly loved to visit during the Christmas season. Prior to my stay last week, however, I had not been back to the Madison since prior to my move to Florida 21 years ago.
"Solid place to stay." "Hubby and I recently stayed at the Madison, where we have stayed a couple of times before. It continues to be a solid place to stay. Busy, I had to call to get a room instead of being able to book online. We had a function that meant we needed a late check out. Over the phone they'll give you till 12noon (instead of the normal 11am check out time) but when we checked in, I asked and they gave us till 1pm with no additional charges. They have a good continental breakfast (at least on the weekends, I'm guessing during the week, also) with good coffee and bagels. Keurig coffee makers in the rooms, also. Bed was comfortable and lots of towels. We will definitely stay here again." Posted on May 17, 2011
"Consistently Very Good" "Have stayed in past years on business. Last five years have stayed for R&R. Have always been treated as a frequent guest by all the staff. Parking is easy. Train to New York City feet from the hotel parking lot (along city block). Room Service quick and always been hot. What I like best is is a family own hotel an not just another chain hotel. The room has always been very clean and have always paid a fair price. The bellhops can not do enough for the guest an always have time for just one more question." Posted on November 16, 2011
“We love this hotel and always stay here when in the area!” "This is a beautiful hotel with interesting antiques in the lobby and meeting areas, as well as a gorgeous greenhouse-room full of flowers. I can't imagine a more lovely spot for a wedding. We are always very comfortable here. I've never experienced a problem with noises (from some reviews below) and always sleep soundly in their comfortable beds. Very convenient to the train station for NJ Transit -- a one-block walk. Very nice continental breakfast with fruit, yogurt, and non-standard pastries. This is likely our favorite hotel in the U.S., especially when you compare price and value." Posted on July 23, 2011 “Very Nice and Warm Feeling Hotel That We Will Visit Again” "My son lives lives in Morristown and he recommended The Madison for our visit. It was a great choice. Nice looking property. Very nice comfortable lobby area. Front desk staff was very efficient and friendly to deal with upon check-in. Room on 4th floor was very comfortable, clean and nice. King size bed - awesome. Complimentary breakfast buffet in lobby had good selections. A great value for the room rate paid. My son was running in the NYC Marathon, so upon checkout, we walked across the parking lot to pick up the train to Penn Station. So easy and convenient if you want to visit NYC, but not stay in the NYC. We shall be returning soon and are looking forward to trying Rod's Steak House for sure! Posted on November 15, 2011 "Really a great place...unbelievable value" "The service and value not to mention the extras in the lobby are really wonderful. The complimentary car drove me 4 times with in 2 days. I have traveled so much this month and it was so refreshing to have people WANT to help me at every turn." Posted on April 17, 2011
"Great Value" "I was totally impressed with the caliber of this hotel for the price we paid. The lobby area is very warm and welcoming. The availability of coffee/tea was certainly a plus. The included continental breakfast was also more than expected. Didn't have a chance to eat at Rod's but hoping to get up that way again in the Spring." Posted on November 19, 2011
"A Quaint Place to Stay” "I stayed at the Madison Hotel overnight for a quick getaway. Upon entering the hotel, you can see that the lobby is decorated in rich cherrywood furniture. The decor is reminiscent of a time long ago. It fits in with the town's historical feel. The check-in process was quick and smooth. Upon arriving to our floor, we observed the hallway was quiet and neatly decorated. Our hotel room was neat and looked just like the pictures on the hotel's website. The beds were comfy, the room included cable and free internet." Posted on July 25, 2011 "Fantastic Experience” "Very cute hotel, especially the lobby which was a comfortable place to read and just relax. Everything is spotless and clean! Our room was very comfortable and quiet, especially at night when the hotel events ended which is often a loud and annoying time at other hotels. I realized I had forgotten some toiletries and within 5 minutes of requesting them, they were brought to my room! We ordered Rod's (steakhouse attached to hotel) room service for dinner. The food arrived hot and was absolutely delicious! Also in a great location! Plenty of shopping, eating and things to do nearby! I went to a wedding here several years ago and I remember the party room being beautiful and decorated tastefully, and having a wonderful time! Both of my experiences at the Madison were excellent and I can't wait to return for another stay!" Posted on November 9, 2011
"They did a terrifdic job" "I do not know what this facility was like before, but clearly a terrific renovation was done here. The room was tastefully decorated with period wallpaper and beautifully coordinated drapery. All standard amenities that are expected at a 4star hotel were present; flat screen TV, complimentary internet, toiletries, THREE WAY BULBS in the lamps (that's unheard of), bath mat AND tub mat (big help in avoiding slipping and falling risks), daily USA Today, Keurig coffeemaker, etc. The staff was unusually attentive and accommodating to every need; they even offered assistance when circumstances hinted that there might be a need. I slept through the complimentary continental breakfast but I'm confident it was adequate. Overall, bravo! I would like to see some name chain hotels follow this example." Posted on October 27, 2011 "Convenient and pleasant place to stay in the Morristown area" "We've stayed at the Madison a number of times, but were pleasantly surprised this time by how much they have upgraded. The lobby is much brighter and cleaner and the public areas were much improved. The rooms have always been fine. The hotel is right on the New Jersey transit line which makes travel to New York easy. Staff is pleasant and helpful." Posted on May 23, 2011
"A Genuine Experience of a Classic Era" "We have stayed at the Madison hotel several times and are former residents of the area. It is a 'period piece' like no other, well known for weddings in the glass atrium. It is an older hotel with atmosphere and has it's own train station for direct connection to NYC.
"Magnificient" "My daughter and I stayed at this hotel in August 2011. We needed a stop over spot on our way into NYC. We were stunned at how beautiful it was. The entryway, the lobby and the public areas reminded us of a bygone era. The desk staff was very polite, respectful and knowledgeable. The room had every detail covered from extra pillows, a big, flat screen TV, high end toiletries and a KEURIG Coffee maker. We will definately stay here again." Posted on September 13, 2011 "Wow" "We hosted our wedding cocktail and reception at the Madison hotel. It was a great hit. The venue is beautiful, I absolutely love their conservatory room and their ballroom. Tim Mchale and Charles helped us and accommodated all of our needs. It is not just any old chain hotel. This hotel has a lot of character, class, history, and is unique. I can't wait for our pictures to arrive, I am sure the background setting of this hotel will enhance our pictures. The guest rooms are wonderful as well. Not a single guest complained and all of them complimented me on the choice of our venue. I hope that their service and venue remain wonderful forever." "An Excellent Property" "I stay at the Madison at least monthly, and it is a terrific hotel and very well-located. The rooms are spacious, and the continental breakfast is excellent. The staff is helpful, and the rooms are very clean. The new casual restaurant on site is a great choice for lunch or dinner and much more reasonably priced than Rod's. I highly recommend this property to those traveling in this area. Much nicer than most chains." Posted on October 21, 2011 "It's not a Marriot - It's nicer!” "The Train to New York is literally across the parking lot - 500 feet - Leave your car at the Hotel Madison - put your feet up & ride into the City. The lovely village of Madison, NJ is 5 minutes away by car - loads of local restaraunts & a perfect main street for shopping or dining. If you don't like that direction go the other way about 10 minutes & you are in Morristown, NJ - a largish city center set up around a quaint square & park - loads more restaraunts. "Top notch hospitality, events and corporate meeting planning team!" "I worked with Cynthia Wittig at the Madison to plan a 3 day offsite for my company this past March. I couldn't have been more pleased with the level of service that she provided. She went above and beyond to think of details that hadn't even occurred to me. The execution of her vision/plan was perfect. She and catering manager Tommy are stars! It also needs to be said that they have an on-site pastry chef like no other. Over the 3 days, our corporate leadership team enjoyed the most wonderful food, and especially desserts! The whole hotel is like a throwback in terms of concierge-level service from top to bottom. In my mind, they match the finest hotels in much larger metropolitan areas. Thank you, Cynthia!" Posted on October 21, 2011 "Absolutely Lovely & Great Value" "We are from the area, but wanted an easy night away. Our usual favorite place, the Short Hills Hilton, was booked, so we tried the Madison Hotel. What a wonderful unexpected experience! This hotel is so beautiful, from another time (but with modern amenities) and the staff was truly exceptional...the staff was immediately attentive and solved the problem!
"Absolutely Lovely & Great Value" "While visiting our Drew college student, we happened upon this great hotel. We've been at nearby chains, etc and this place is lovely in comparison. The kind staff , delicious breakfast buffet each day (fresh and varied!), we worked out in the gym - ran the nearby trails in the vicinity - and slept so well. We will try to stay here whenever we can. " Posted on September 26, 2011 |
